Thong Nhat Palace (Reunification Palace)

Thong Nhat palace is a architectural work in Ho Chi Minh city. Currently, it has been ranked as special national monument by the Vietnamese Prime Minister. The Palace has many different names in different periods such as Norodom palace (1889 – 1954), the Prime Minister palace ((9-1954 – 10-1956), Independence palace (10-1956 – 10-1976) and now is Reunification palace. This is not only a unique structure, but also is associated with many important historical events of the country. Today, the Palace is both attraction tourist place and place for organization of conferences; seminars; reception of agencies, domestic and foreign business. This palace opens daily to welcome visitor from 7:30am to 11:00am and from 13:00pm to 16:00pm, including Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

Thong Nhat Palace (Reunification Palace)

Thong Nhat Palace is located at the end of Le Duan street, in area of 12 hectare and be surrounđe by four roads: Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street in the Northeast (the main front of the Palace), Huyen Tran Cong Chua street in the Southwest (the back of the Palace), Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street in the Northwest (on the left of the Palace), Nguyen Du in the Southeast (on the right of the Palace).

Looking from above, the overall surface of the Palace is (- 吉) word in shape, it means that auspicious, fortunate. In the front of the Palace, there are three eaves that form (- 三) word in shape, they are connected together by a hanging stroke in the middle to create into 主 word, it mean that the Palace symbolize the national sovereignty.

The main block has an area of 4,500 m2, 26m in height and be located in the centre of campus. This area has 3 floors, 2 mezzanines, 1 terrace, 1 basement floor. Usable area in total is 200,000 m2, divided into 95 rooms. Each room has one single function, architecture and be decorated in accordance with intended use of each room.

Thong Nhat Palace - Dai Yen room

Mid-1960s, this is the work item that has the largest scale in the South and the most building cost (150,000 gold). The auxiliary system inside the modern Palace: air conditioner, fire protection, communications, storage. The basement can withstand bombardment of big bombs and guns. The front of Palace is decorated stylized adaptation of the burning curtain – style architecture of the houses in Vietnam and motifs of ancient pagodas in Vietnam. The rooms of the palace are decorated multiple works of hydrangeas river, lacquer, oil painting.

Thong Nhat Palace management Agency has named Reunification Hall that belongs to Administration Department of Public Administration II – Office of Government. This is the historical and famous cultural monuments that is numerous domestic and foreigners to visit.
