The Vietnam Railway System was established by French colonist over a hundred years ago, after the Reunification in 1975 the railway system was recovered and further developed by the Vietnamese Government. With the total length of about 3.143km, Vietnam Railway System connect most cities and provinces from the North to the South of Vietnam. The system is also linked with the Chinese railway system.
Thong Nhat (Vietnam’s Reunification) Express (RE train) is a great way to travel. Travel by railway with ‘Soft Sleeper’ is the most comfortable standard available although it cannot be compared with European standards. RE train runs from Hanoi to Saigon, and stopping in Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet (Mui Ne). On the train, each carriage contains a number of cabins, that have four berths. Your luggage will be kept in your compartment under the bottom berths. There is a wash basin and squat toilets are located at the conner of each carriage. Pillows and blankets are provided and meals are served on the train, but you should bring your own food with you.
