Sapa market is the traditional kermis, which takes place on every Sunday right at the heart of Sapa town. It is bustling until late afternoon, not only for trading, but also for socializing and unwinding after hard working days. At the time on market, streets in Sapa downtown are filling with hundreds of Hmong and Red Dao people in colorful ethnic attire heading to Sapa market.

The market consists of both indoors and outdoors space. Outdoor stalls sell flowers, fresh produce, groceries and food; the little workshops offer ethnic fabrics on the second floor.

Once getting in the market gate, visitors will see stalls full of mountain fruits such as: apricot, peach, plum and pear. These fruits are very good for your the meal dessert or enjoy during the trip. On right hand side stalls, visitors will find trinkets (ethnic silver jewelry), medical herbs and local products which are good for health like forest honey, Ganoderma and notosingeng.

The second floor is the must-visit place for the ones who are enchanted by the colorful costume of the H’Mong and Dao people in Sapa, looking for authentic ethnic fabric. On this floor, tourists can find a number of embroidered handbags, skirts, blankets, pillow shams and table covers with unique patterns, made by the indigenous. The especially here is almost ethnic women who sell brocades here can speak English quite well.

In Sapa market tourists will see a lot of local people gather at food stalls to enjoy Sapa’s specialties such as: steamed corn wheat (mèn mén), corn wine and horse visceral soup (thắng cố). These are traditional dishes and beverage of local people in Sapa which you should try for when come here.
