As its culture and language, Indian Cuisine is also has a wide variety. There are different styles and dishes for different regions. Every state has its own distinct cuisine and flavours. Though the spices that are used are common, but the taste differs due to style of cooking and variations in ingredients.
In this article, I am going to talk about some of the Regional Indian cuisines.
Bengali Food
Bengali food is characterized by the amazing blend of sweet and spicy flavor. Amongst other ingredients, the most essential for most of the dishes is the ‘panchphoron’. Panchphoron is just a mixture of different spices; the spices that are used to create Panchphoron are mustard, fenugreek seed, cumin seed, aniseed and black cumin seed.
Gujrati Food
Gujrati food is mostly vegetarian with high nutritional value. Gujrati food has a lot to offer, there are various dishes which are prepared in different styles. Gujrati food is neither too spicy nor too sweet. The dishes don’t taste predominantly of one spice, but have a distinct taste of their own, and that is the reason why each dish has a different style of cooking.
Mughlai Food
Mughlai food is famous in India since the time of Mughlai Raj. Even during the Mughal Rule, the cuisine was readily accepted by the people in the country. They introduced some of the dishes which were mostly non-vegetarian, but the spicy flaovur was similar to most of the North Indian dishes. Mughlai Food is very spicy in nature and has abundance of red chili powder and green chilies used as a dressing.
Punjabi Food
Punjabi food has adopted a lot of Mughlai Non Vegetarian food. But as much as Punjabi’s relish both vegetarian and non vegetarian food, there is one thing that is constant in all. They enjoy a good amount of ‘Ghee’ in their food. Mostly the non vegetarian dishes are a bit spicy, whereas vegetarian food has good amount of ‘Ghee’ floating over it.
South Indian Food
South Indian food is not as spicy as most of the North Indian dishes. It is light with low calories. Traditionally, South Indian food is cooked in coconut oil and is also accompanied with a sauce prepared with coconut. Due to coconut oil, South Indian dishes usually taste little sweet.
